And How Long Has This Been Going On?
Biologist Roger Payne explains that after a 5 year Sperm Whale study, the entire ocean from the antarctic to the arctic is contaminated with serious levels of toxic pollution. He knows this because these sperm whales contained deadly levels of human caused industrial pollutants. But that’s the good news. These whales weren’t found in the Gulf of Mexico. They were found in the “pristine” waters of the arctic and down as far as antarctica.
But that’s also the good news. Treehugger.com explains that over 1 billion people live exclusively on seafood. Billions more eat seafood on a regular basis. While most humans don’t eat sperm whale meet, the same fish that whales eat are eaten by humans. And the article continues to explain that toxic contaminants from “stainless steel, paints, and leather tanning, … were found in the whales at shocking levels.”
“You could make a fairly tight argument to say that it is the single greatest health threat that has ever faced the human species,” says Payne. – Treehugger
